Steroids

I finished treatment over 2 weeks ago. 12 doses of chemotherapy for Hodgkins Lymphoma.

I was wondering if steroids can still have an effect after 2 weeks. I have recently been having sweating at night but my temperature is normal, I have also taken a covid test which was negative. I can’t say I’ve been feeling unwell, just a little off colour.

Has anyone else had these symptoms? I know the effects of coming down from steroids, but haven’t experienced this during treatment.

Thanks in advance

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I'm sorry to read that you've been feeling unwell recently.

The online community is divided into different support forums so I'm going to recommend that you join the Hodgkin lymphoma forum which is a great place to put your question to others who will have had the same treatment as you.

To join, just click on the link I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

It would be great if you could put something about your diagnosis and treatment to date into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

  • Hi  and a second welcome to the Community. I am Mike and I help out around our various Lymohoma groups.

I know this journey rather well as I have been on it for over 25 years.

Do go over and join and put up a post in the Hodgkin lymphoma group that my friend  as highlighted.

A simple answer to your question is yes….. the effects of steroids but also the accumulated effects of your treatments can take a considerable amount of time to work its way out of your body….. my CNS said that these treatments will upset our bodies metabolism so what you are experiencing can happen….. but as always you check in with your clinical team and in my book if they are happy I was happy.

  • Thanks Mike, there’s nothing like experience.

  • Thanks mate, I have joined the suggested group and can hopefully get a few chats going. It was very helpful talking to other patients on the chemo unit, but now my treatment is finished I don’t have that, so to find this place is truly a blessing to me, so once again thank you.

  • I am sure that we will talk more….

I don’t have Hodgkin's Lymphoma but for some context I was diagnosed way back in 1999 at 43 with a rare (8 in a million) incurable but treatable type of Cutaneous T-Cell NHL (a type of slow growing Low-grade non-Hodgkin lymphoma) ……. eventually reaching Stage 4a in late 2013 when a second, also rare (4 in a million) type of aggressive Peripheral T-Cell - Not Otherwise Specified NHL (a type of fast growing High-grade non-Hodgkin lymphoma) was then presenting so although my Lymphoma ‘type’ is different I most definitely appreciate the challenges of this journey rather well……. you can see my full story through the link at the very bottom of my posts.

  • It would seem that life has dealt you a bad hand Mike, but it’s inspirational to see that you are a fighter and refuse to lay down, my son is the same, there are interviews online with him when he was at the Australia Invictus games in 2019.
