I've been given a triple wammy diagnosis

1, Slidding hiatus Hernia

2, Barretts esophagus

3, Stomach cancer

Have known since May

After endoscopy tests.

Which I find hard to understand as I don't feel ill.

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the Community.

Navigating the cancer journey can be such a stressful and challenging time but getting support from people who have walked the ‘exact same' cancer journey can help a lot. (I have a completely different cancer).

This New to Community area is like our reception desk where we look to try and direct you to the best part of the Community for you to get support. The Community is actually divided into dedicated Support Groups (Discussion Rooms)…… but I do see that you have already found and joined our dedicated Stomach Cancer support group. This will be a safe place to talk to others with a similar diagnosis, treatment experience, to ask questions and get support.

To connect in with the group please click on the link below…….

            Stomach cancer

…… then once the group page opens you can introduce yourself by putting up your very own post by clicking [+ Create new post] or [ + ] in the top right of the group page.

You can copy and paste the text from this post into your new post.

You may find it helpful to call the Macmillan Support Line open 8am-8pm (timings may differ across services) 7 days a week on 0808 808 00 00. This service provides cancer information, practical information, emotional support, benefits/financial guidance or just a listening ear.

We also have our Ask an Expert section but do allow 3 working days for a reply.

Talking to people face to face can be very helpful so do check to see if you have any Local Macmillan Support in your area, do also check for a local Maggie's Centre as these folks are amazing and give support to all the family.

Do get back to me if you need further help navigating the community.

  • Since my first post things have changed in August had the tumours removed 1 stomach and the barretts 1 in my esophagus. Which wasn't straight forward what should have just been an over night stay turned in to 10. I recovered well.

But since after further results on the tumours I was told today I have to have my full oesophagus and 2/3rds if my stomach removed at the beginning of November    having no Chemo or radio first just straight in for the operation.

So yes a hell of a shock and a hard thing to process and get my head round just at the moment.

  • Hi again  and sorry to hear how things have developed….. this is such a challenging time for you and most certainly this triggers significant noise between the ears…….. I have a completely different type of cancer and treatment journey so I don’t have any first hand experience to bring to the table.

I would suggest that you put up a post in our…….

    Stomach cancer

    and

    Gullet (oesophagus) cancer

……. support groups as these groups will connect you with others who have navigated the same exact same journey.

‘Talking’ can help to reduce the noise in your head so remember that the Macmillan Support Line is open between 8am-8pm (timings may differ across services) 7 days a week on 0808 808 00 00……

Talking to people ‘face to face’ can also be very helpful so do check for any Local Macmillan Support in your area as well for a local Maggie's Centre

I wish you all the very best for your treatments and for good outcomes.
