Melanoma biopsy

I had a biopsy 12 days ago that the consultant said was melanoma. I have just received a text for an appointment on Thursday morning without a letter. Should I expect this follow up to mean confirmation of cancer? If it was clear would I just have received a letter?

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

Waiting for results of a biopsy can be a very stressful time and it's natural to want to know why you've been given a follow-up appointment rather than receive your results by letter but I don't think you can read anything into it. It all depends on the protocol of your hospital... some have you in to get your results, which gives you the opportunity of asking questions, while others phone or send you a letter.

If it does turn out that you have melanoma then can I recommend that you join us over in the melanoma forumwhich is a great place to ask questions, share experiences and get support.

To join, just click on the link I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

After joining the forum, it would be great if you could put something about your diagnosis and proposed treatment plan into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

I'll be keeping everything crossed for a good result for you
