Hi everyone

I wonder if anyone knows of any support for post treatment fear.

My daughter has become very body aware since finishing chemotherapy, the lumpectomy and the radiotherapy.  Every lump or bump is cancer and google is her friend and enemy.  She is only mid 20s lives at home has had a year off work with all the treatments etc.

Any advice where she turns to please?

  • Hi

It's perfectly natural for your daughter to worry that any new 'thing' she notices means her cancer has returned. We all do it.

If she's not aware already, Macmillan have teamed up with Bupa to offer up to 4 free counselling sessions for people who are struggling emotionally because they are living with cancer. Clicking on the link I've created will provide you with more information.

You might also want to encourage her to join the online community as this would give her the opportunity of talking to others who will understand what she's going through.

  • Hi PocketPoppet. and welcome, another place to find support is Maggie's www.maggies.org A wonderful cancer charity open 9-5 weekdays, just pop in no appointment needed and she can go alone or with family to talk to their cancer support specialists who have helped so many of us on the community, best wishes.

  • Thank you there’s not one nearby although I have done the Maggies Night Walk in years gone by to raise funds for the centre

Hi from me too. This fear is completely normal. My oncologist simply said I would have to get used to it and that it would lessen with time. Very helpful! Thankfully I am a member of this community where I got a lot of advice. Others advice is spot on. Can I suggest you and she have a read of this article by Dr Peter Harvey who was a clinical psychologist at Leeds Cancer Centre before he retired. I think it resonates for a lot of us recovered patients After Treatment

  • Thank you for the link to the After Treatment article. Even though I'm a long way from that I got a lot out of it.

Thank you Clem. I still refer to it. It’s been a great help through the years.
    Good luck with treatment. Hugs
