Hi Everyone,

Not quite sure what I’m doing here be honest. I was diagnosed with advanced kidney cancer with lung and liver mets 9 weeks ago. I’ve started 2 lots of immunotherapy, tablet and IV. I think I just want to talk with people in a similar predicament to mine. I have amazing family and friends but it’s hard to talk to them sometimes. I’m a fighter in life always have been but this is next level and adjusting to life at the moment is very difficult.

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the Community but sorry to hear about your diagnoses.

Navigating the cancer journey can be such a stressful and challenging time but getting support from people who have walked the ‘exact same' cancer journey can help a lot. (I have a completely different cancer).

This New to Community area is like our reception desk where we look to try and direct you to the best part of the Community for you to get support. The Community is actually divided into dedicated Support Groups (Discussion Rooms) so can I recommend you join and post in our dedicated….

             Kidney cancer

           Liver, secondary cancer

           Lung, secondary cancer

    …….. support groups.

These groups are safe place me to talk to others with a similar diagnosis, treatment experience, to ask questions and get support.

To connect in with the group please click on the links above then once the group page opens click in the [Black - Click to Join - Banner] that appears at the bottom of the page and this will then confirm that you have joined the group.

When you are ready……. you can introduce yourself by putting up your very own post by clicking [+ Create new post] or [ + ] in the top right of the group page.

You can copy and paste the text from this post into your new post.

You may find it helpful to call the Macmillan Support Line open 8am-8pm (timings may differ across services) 7 days a week on 0808 808 00 00. This service provides cancer information, practical information, emotional support, benefits/financial guidance or just a listening ear.

We also have our Ask an Expert section but do allow 3 working days for a reply.

Talking to people face to face can be very helpful so do check to see if you have any Local Macmillan Support in your area, do also check for a local Maggie's Centre as these folks are amazing and give support to all the family.

Do get back to me if you need further help navigating the community.

  • Hi Russell and a very warm welcome to the forum though so sorry you have to be here, I understand how difficult it is to come to terms with such a diagnosis an how motional it is for you, I have advanced metastatic prostate cancer 2 years now and understand you wanting to talk to others on the same journey as even talking to guys on a curative cancer pathway is often of little help. Russell for support, there are a couple of forums you may want to join, the emotional support forum and, the living with incurable cancer - patients only forum, which is the only forum where anything can be discussed. There are cancer specific forums which offer great help too, and the Macmillan helpline 0808 808 00 00 is definitely worth calling, and if you have a Maggies near you www.maggies.org they offer wonderful support to you and your family open weekdays 9-5 just pop in, no appointment needed. Russell I would suggest you ask your GP for a referral to your local hospice and their palliative care team, please don't think these are just places you go to at the end, they are so much more than that, I have been going to mine for 8 months now for therapies, counselling and meeting friends on a similar journey and I have a few years yet, best wishes on your journey, take care.
