Hello,
I have been given a diagnosis of probable thyroid cancer from a thyroid FNA. Timing is not in my favour as currently I’m in the process of getting a mortgage. Has anyone been successful in applying for income insurance protection and critical illness cover when awaiting for definitive management pls?
Hi Berta and a very warm welcome to the Community but sorry to hear about your ongoing diagnoses and the challenges you are having.
I do see that you have put your question to our Ask an Expert team, they will do their best to help you navigate a rather complicated subject……. but do allow 3 working days for a reply.
I have been on my incurable cancer journey for over 25 years and I have never been able to get any new affordable, let alone specific insurance like an Income Protection policy over these 25 years.
I retired in 2011 due to my cancer but fortunately my house was paid off in late 2012 but we were fortunate that we had an existing term life insurance that would cover the difference should any of the two of us died during the term if the mortgage ……. but once I was diagnosed way back in 1999 I did try to get income protection but was not successful……. Obviously I have not had the need to look so things may have changed over the past years…… I do hope you get some cover…… this is just one of the many challenges a cancer diagnosis drings.

This will be a safe place to talk to others with a similar diagnosis, treatment experience, to ask questions and get support.
