Hello

i had a mole biopsy over 3 weeks ago which the dr said looked suspicious but couldn’t be sure without biopsy being done. They said results would be 5-6 weeks and would be sent by post. I have received a letter today with an appointment with a dermatology clinical nurse specialist on 10th June and now thinking it must be bad news. If results are negative do they just tell you in a letter or do you get an appointment anyway. I lost my husband 2 and a half years ago after a long battle with cancer and going to the hospital was so hard as it brought back so many bad memories

  • Hi  and I am sorry to hear about your husband’ and now this Dermatology appointment.

I have been under Dermatology…. as well as many other clinical areas over my 25 years and my Dermatologist (as does the other clinical areas) tend to communicate good news through a letter or a phone call…… but will make an appointment for me to come in if further investigations were required.

So you will need to go to the appointment and see what they are saying.

This New to Community area is like our reception desk where we look to try and direct you to the best part of the Community for you to get support. The Community is actually divided into dedicated Cancer Support Groups (Discussion Rooms) so you may want to have a look in our dedicated…..

    Skin cancer

    Melanoma

…….support groups. These groups are safe places to talk to others with a similar diagnosis, treatment experience, to ask questions and get support.

You may find it helpful to call the Macmillan Support Line open 8am-8pm (timings may differ across services) 7 days a week on 0808 808 00 00. This service provides cancer information, practical information, emotional support or just a listening ear.

We also have our Ask an Expert section but do allow 3 working days for a reply.

Do get back to me if you need further help navigating the community.

Thank you for your reply. I am thinking that if all was clear they wouldn’t get me in for appointment. I will look at the other groups.
