I’ve just been told I have breast cancer although I don’t get biopsy results til Friday. Consultant was very blunt & scared the life out of me. Really scared of what they will tell me on Friday

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the Community but sorry to hear about your BC diagnoses.

Navigating the cancer journey can be such a stressful and challenging time but getting support from people who have walked the ‘exact same' cancer journey can help a lot. (I have a completely different cancer).

The New to Community is like our reception desk where we look to try and direct you to the best part of the Community for you to get support. The Community is actually divided into dedicated Cancer Support Groups (Discussion Rooms) so can I recommend you join and post in our dedicated Breast Cancer support group. This will be a safe place to talk to others with a similar diagnosis, treatment experience, to ask questions and get support.

To connect in with the group please click on the link belowPoint down

…… then once the group page opens click in the [Black - Click to Join - Banner] that appears at the bottom of the page and this will then confirm that you have joined the group.

When you are ready……. you can introduce yourself by putting up your very own post by clicking [+ Create new post] or [ + ] in the top right of the group page.

You can copy and paste the text from this post into your new post.

You may find it helpful to call the Macmillan Support Line open 8am-8pm (timings may differ across services) 7 days a week on 0808 808 00 00. This service provides cancer information, practical information, emotional support, benefits/financial guidance or just a listening ear. We also have our Ask an Expert section but do allow 3 working days for a reply.

Talking to people face to face can be very helpful so do check to see if you have any Local Macmillan Support in your area, do also check for a local Maggie's Centre as these folks are amazing and give support to all the family.

Do get back to me if you need further help navigating the community.

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I'm sorry to read that you've just been diagnosed with breast cancer and I know how scary it can feel initially having been diagnosed myself 2 years ago.

As the online community is divided into different support forums I'm going to recommend that you join the breast cancer forum which is a great place to ask questions and share experiences with others who have a similar diagnosis to you.

To join, just click on the link I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

It would be great if you could put something about your diagnosis and tests to date into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

  • I’m sorry to hear your news and that the news was delivered in such a blunt way.
Remember, support is always here on this forum and from the wider Macmillan community and staff. Remember too that you gave a right to ask questions of medical professionals. It might help to write a list to take with you.

    I wish you well.

  • Got my results today. Stage 2 triple negative but thankfully lymph nodes were clear. Now for 3-4 months of chemo to hopefully shrink tumours then surgery to remove. Trying very hard to stay positive as chemo scares me  as heard side effects not great. Plus hair loss too.
on the upside at least I’m getting treated . Now just waiting for oncology appointment

  • I had the same experience consultant said yeah we are sure its cancer wait for results off you go. I was deeply upset and was on my own for the appointment a nurse said in the corridor oh we might have a leaflet and stumbled around trying to fund one on a rack but i told her dont worry. There was no where private to go and just in a waiting room of other women waiting to be seen properly feeling very scared and anxious. Would of been nice to just to have somewhere private to sit, offered a glass of water and just someone to check in with
