Hi

My mum has just been diagnosed with cancer. She is over 80 and just had her first session of chemo.

Does anyone have any advise with regards to diet please?

She cannot eat solid food and currently living off cup a soup

Fruit tea bio milk and coffee. Milk shakes and soup with bits in

Either won't go down or make her sick.

We are still waiting to hear from a dietitian but it's taking a long time.

Many thanks erica

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the Macmillan Community but sorry to hear about your mum’s diagnosis and the challenges she is having.

A cancer diagnosis in the family can be such a challenging and stressful time but getting support from others who are dealing with the ‘exact same' cancer type or support challenges will help you a lot……. I have a completely different type of cancer and treatment journey.

The New to Community is like our reception desk where we try to direct you to the best part of the Community for you to get support. The Community is actually divided into dedicated Support Groups (Discussion Rooms) so can I recommend you join and post in our dedicated……

To connect with a group click on the “Bold Italic Links” I have created above …… then once the group page opens click in the [ Black - Click to Join - Banner ] that appears at the bottom of the page and this will then confirm that you have joined the group.

When you are ready……. you can introduce yourself by putting up your very own post by clicking [ + Create new post] or [ + ] in the top right of the group page.

    Hi

Your mum should get Fortisips or Ensures, which are meal replacement drinks, on prescription. Is she having weekly chemo? In which case her GP is the best bet. If she is being seen soon at the hospital ask there plus something to stop the nausea.
    Best wishes

  • Hiya Dani

Yes she is on regular chemo now. But we are still fighting to hear from the dietitian. In my last correspondence she said bio milk was better than ensures but that was in a voice mail.

It cannot be right to just leave her as she is. I'm going to contact the cancer nurse again and also take your advise with regards to Dr.

    Kind regards erica
