My wife of 50 years has just been diagnosed with stage 4 Lung Cancer with hot spots of cancer showing up in many places. It's been 7 weeks and still no treatment. She is now waiting for  Gene test results to determine what type of treatment will be suitable for her. We met when she was just 17. She has spent a lifetime helping others and so have I. Now I feel so useless. There is a lot for me to do but at the moment I have lost all motivation.

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I'm sorry to read that your wife has recently been diagnosed with terminal cancer and it's no surprise that you have lost motivation.

The online community is divided into different support forums so I'm going to recommend a couple for you to join. The first is the lung cancer forum, which is a great place to ask questions and share experiences with others who have the same type of cancer as your wife, and the second is the supporting someone with incurable cancer forum which is for carers, friends and families of people with a terminal diagnosis to discuss their emotions as well as practical issues.

To join, just click on the links I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

It would be great if you could put something about your wife's diagnosis and tests into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
