Hi my name is Vin. My wife Linda(69) was diagnosed with Stage 4B Ovarian Cancer mid July  last year after receiving the all clear at the end of April. Her first round of chemo got her back on her feet and she was prescribed Niraparib. A month later she is back in bed after having ascites drained. She is not eating and is in pain and spends her time sleeping.

I think she is dying but the specialist phoned and wants to see her on Thursday for a 'New Plan" I'm not sure we will make it that far. How long can you live without eating? I feel alone and powerless as she sleeps almost 24/7 apart from admin of painkillers.

Is this all 'Normal' ?

thanks

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I'm sorry to read that your wife's ovarian cancer has recurred and I can understand what a worrying time this will be for you. However, it's good that her oncologist has a new plan.

As the online community is divided into different support forums I'm going to recommend that you join the ovarian cancer forum which is a great place to ask questions and share experiences with others who have a similar diagnosis to your wife.

Another forum which I think you'd benefit from joining is the carers only forum as this will give you the chance to find out how others have helped loved ones with things like eating.

To join, just click on the links I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

It would be great if you could put something about your wife's diagnosis and treatment to date into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
