Im a concerned husband. My wife has been struggling with constipation and some blood sometimes but she does have piles. She went to the specialist a month ago, he did an xray and said she was backed up so prescribed a light laxative that she has been taking for a month. Things improved slightly but still struggles some days.

today she went back and left a stool sample and was told to wait an hour. The results came back as follow:

occult blood negative

transferrin positive

calprotectin positive

Lactoferrin negative

doctor has now given an appointment for an endoscopy and colonoscopy in 2 weeks time.

she is calm but I am very anxious, we are still young at 38 and have 2 small kids and I am very worried what they might find.

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

It's perfectly natural to be feeling as you do, just as it's natural for your wife to be feeling as she does. There's no right or wrong way to feel when you're going through the diagnosis period.

As the online community is divided into different support forums I'm going to recommend that you join the bowel cancer forum which is a great place to ask questions and share experiences with others who are at the same stage as your wife and also to receive support.

To join, just click on the link I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

It would be great if you could put something about your wife's tests, etc to date into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
