Hi Everyone, Just to let you all know that my husband and I are currently in Singapore and during a routine check-up on 15th Feb, things quickly awry, when ultrasound, MRI, endoscopy turned out to show that my duodenum is almost completely blocked. They admitted me to hospital and put in a nosefeeding tube. So I have been on this for the past week. Things are progressing fast - so far they haven't found any cancer cells - the biopsy was inconclusive. The cancer markers blood tests were also inconclusive.
I have opted for a bypass to enable me to eat normally, take the tube out, then recover and return to UK for further diagnosis and treatment.
It's a whole new world to us both. My husband is devastated. We would like to know the process from when we return to UK - get a GP appointment - then what?
The surgeons here think it is cancer - they have a full tumour board look at the results. The fact that no cancer cells had been detected is shocking. What is this mass?
Does anyone know what we should do? Who is the best Hepatobilary surgeon in UK under NHS? We live in Kent (near Ashford) - anyone who is undergoing treatment with a Hepatobilary surgeon in William Harvey and can recommend the surgeon please let me know. It'd be great if we have some idea of how to go forward.
The fear of course is that the wait for diagnosis will mean having an eventual deterioration where my other organs fail/get blocked, turn jaundiced and death.
Hi wildfirejc and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.
I can't begin to imagine how difficult it must be for you to fall ill while on holiday and it's natural to catastrophize and expect the worst.
As the online community is divided into different support forums I'm going to recommend that you join the duodenal cancer forum as it's a great place to ask questions and share experiences.
To join, just click on the link I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.
It would be great if you could put something about your diagnosis and treatment to date into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
