Hi All

I have recently been diagnosed with prostate cancer would like to chat to chat with other people in the same position in ipswich and suffolk areas

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the Community but sorry to hear about your diagnoses.

Navigating the cancer journey can be such a stressful and challenging time but getting support from people who have walked the ‘exact same' cancer journey can help a lot. (I have a completely different cancer).

The New to Community is like our reception desk where we look to direct you to the best part of the Community for you to get support. The Community is divided into dedicated Cancer Support Groups (Discussion Rooms)….  but I do see that you have already joined our dedicated Prostrate Cancer support group. This is a safe place to talk to others with a similar diagnosis, treatment experience, to ask questions and get support.

To connect in with the group click on this linkPoint down

…… then once the group page opens you can introduce yourself by clicking “+new” or “+” in the top right next to the group title. You can copy and paste the text from this post into your new post.

You may find it helpful to call the Macmillan Support Line open 8am-8pm (timings may differ across services) 7 days a week on 0808 808 00 00. This service provides cancer information, practical information, emotional support, benefits/financial guidance or just a listening ear. We also have our Ask an Expert section but do allow 3 working days for a reply.

Talking to people face to face can be very helpful so do check to see if you have any Local Macmillan Support in your area, do also check for a local Maggie's Centre as these folks are amazing and give support to all the family.

Do get back to me if you need further help navigating the community.

  • Hello Guy and welcome, If as Mike, "Thehighlander" suggests you join the prostate cancer forum you will meet a wonderful group of people, men and women, who will be happy to support and chat to you and help you in any way we can. As personal privacy is important on the community I do not know if anyone is local to you, though i would think many have been or are in a similar position to you, take care.

  • Hi Guy. I was diagnosed 2 days before Christmas (happy Christmas eh?).  I’m in the Suffolk area too. I went to the support group but, to be perfectly honest, I wasn’t impressed. For a start, it’s only once every 2 months and it was mostly someone from the hospital, telling us how much money has been spent on this project and that project, my take was they were just patting themselves on the back and other than learning about the new facilities & treatment (info which could easily be popped in the post to me) I didn’t really feel particularly ‘supported’. Ideally, a group that meets up in a pub or cafe, somewhere, where we can swap stories about our diagnosis and get to know each other would be much better, although I can’t speak for anyone else, I’d get far more out of that format!

  • Hello  and

Welcome to the Macmillan Online Community - like you two I am on a Prostate Cancer journey (26 months into 36 on Hormone/Radiotherapy). I hang around in the Prostate Forum and since I've been there I've found it to be so friendly and informal - but serious when needed, place to be - that I have become a volunteer.

I can appreciate you are looking for face to face meetings, but our forum is the next best thing (I have met someone off the forum in a pub!!). Why not nip over and take a look - I know Mike above has posted the link but it's here for you:

    It's worth taking a look !!

    Best wishes - Brian.
