Lynch Syndrome

Does anyone know anything about Lynch Syndrome, in particular the risks from radiation for people with the condition? I've read that they are particularly susceptible to dna damage from radiation which can trigger the faulty cells in Lynch to cause a cancer.

I'm being evaluated for the condition but have a pet ct coming up for something not thought to be related to Lynch, and is to rule out a cancer rather than the doctors suspecting that I have it.

I'm aware that I haven't been diagnosed yet but in my family there has been endometrial cancer, pancreas, stomach, ureter, skin and glioblastoma. So a lot to worry about,

I'm so worried about having a scan to rule out one cancer that may then cause another one. Doctors haven't been helpful, saying if you need a scan you should have it etc.

Does anyone have any experience or thoughts on this?

Thank you.

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

It's natural to worry what damage having scans might do and I can see that you posted this question in Ask a Nurse a couple of months ago. In case you haven't read the reply clicking here will take you to it.

The online community is divided into different support forums so having looked up which cancers having Lynch syndrome could predispose you to, it might be an idea to join and post in the bowel cancer, womb cancer and ovarian cancer forums to connect with others who may also have this syndrome. Obviously the last two groups are gender specific so may or may not apply to you.

To join the appropriate groups, just click on the links I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

It would be great if you could put something about your symptoms and test so far into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
