Only symptoms were fatigue and  my nails looking like upturned spoons.  All my results are in and appointment with surgeon early Jan.  What on earth is in store for 2024??

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I'm sorry to read that you've recently been diagnosed with lung cancer and I can certainly understand you wondering what might be in store next year.

The online community is divided into different support forums so I'm going to recommend that you join the lung cancer forum as you'll then connect directly with others who have this cancer so that you can ask questions, share experiences and get support.

To join, just click on the link I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

It would be great if you could put something about your diagnosis into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

  • Thank you.  I too had melanoma 2017.   was due my 5 year discharge appt . 2 days after  first ct scan showed mass in left lung.   I shall lo9k at lung cancer forum.

  • Very similar to me. I was at the end of my 5 years of follow-ups for melanoma when I was diagnosed with breast cancer! I went from thinking, great no more hospital visits to loads more hospital visits for a different type of cancer Disappointed

  • Hi, I've just arrived to the online community, just reaching out after reading your post, I was given the lung cancer diagnosis just a week ago and tests/scans/etc all comming at me very fast, do you feel like your just being carried along on a wave that's moving so fast you can't stop snd just take on board what's happening ?  It's a big fear of the unknown and I know how you feel .

  • Hi.  I  can understand how you are feeling.  It is like a rollercoaster ride.  Lurching from one place to another.  Have you had a definitive diagnosis yet ?  I am scheduled for surgery on 24th Jan.     Always here to talk.

  • Thanks for messaging, I have a definitive diagnosis that it is cancer in my lower right lung after xrays and ct scan, there were also suspicious areas in adrenal glands on both kidneys so I recieved a PET scan on Fridsy there to give a better understanding of any spread and areas affected.  The consultant has also put me forward for CT guided biopsy which he said ideally I would have in the next 2 weeks so I eont see him again until after that and all the results are there for him to hopefully come up with treatment if it's possible. Did you have long to wait from diagnosis to treatment ?

  • I had a pet scan which confirmed lower left lobe mass, infiltrating upper lobe  chest wall and rib.  Lessons on liver.  Results took about 10 days.  Followed by guided biopsy   Again another wait which seems endless.  Mind goes into overdrive.  Finally had consultation with Surgeon last Tuesday.   Once tests are all back it seems to speed up.  So hang in there.  One day further from diagnosed  one day nearer treatment.  I am off for my pre op assessment this afternoon.   Long journey.....  little steps.  We will get through this.

  • Gosh, that's a lot to take in isn't it .  But as long as there are options there is hope and going into this with a positive mindset is definately the way to deal with it.  I expect this is our new normal, I hope all your tests go well and surgery can go ahead.  Please keep in touch with your experience. Ddffinatrly all in this together .
