My husband has been diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer which has spread to the liver. Waiting for a meeting with the doctor to plan out the treatment. It has been a stressful few weeks. I wanted to get all the reports sent to me for a second opinion but I'm still waiting on them. Does anyone have any idea how long it takes to get a copy of the reports?

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I'm sorry to read that your husband has been diagnosed with colon cancer which has spread to his liver and I completely understand what a stressful time this will be for you both.

The online community is divided into different support forums so I'm going to recommend that you join the bowel cancer forum and also the secondary liver cancer forum as you'll then connect directly with others who have this cancer and may have asked for a second opinion.

To join, just click on the links I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

It would be great if you could put something about your husband's diagnosis into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

If you have any problems negotiating the community just reply to me and I'll be pleased to help if I can.

  • I think you would have to get written permission from your husband to get his hospital notes. You make something called a "subject access request" to the hospital he is in. Unless he can get them himself and then give them to you which would be miles quicker. They send you a form to fill in and then someone has to sign it. That would be the patient himself or his Personal Representatives if deceased.
