Hi There
I'm new to all this and logged in as I am going to be supporting my Father who has been diagnosed with Throat and Tongue cancer.
His Radiotherapy is due to start soon; He is scheduled to go for sessions Mon-Fri for 4 weeks initially. My question, is aimed at people with experience of this type of therapy.
What things helped you through your treatment?
When your mouth and throat were sore, did you find anything that eased it?
Did it help to keep your mind occupied or were you just too tired?
My profession is as a carer. So the day to day basics I feel ok to cope with; Hoping for some little nuggets of info that could really make a difference. Thanks in advance.
Hi ZzHh and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll both find is both an informative and supportive place to be.
I'm sorry to read that your dad has throat and tongue cancer and it's natural that you want to find out how to help him.
The online community is divided into different support forums so I'm going to recommend that you join the head and neck cancer forum as you'll then connect directly with others who have the same type of cancer as your dad where you can ask questions, share experiences and get support.
To join, just click on the link I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.
It would be great if you could put something about your dad's diagnosis and treatment so far into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
If you have any problems negotiating the community just reply to me and I'll be pleased to help if I can.
Hello ZzHh and welcome to the community, i am sorry to hear or your dads diagnosis. Regarding radiotherapy, everyone i have ever talked to have all said, and i agree 100% the radiologists are the nicest people, who will answer any and all questions or concerns you have, i have been through my 20 fractions not long ago, for a different cancer, "LAPc", and they couldn't have been more kind and helpful. As Latchbrook has pointed you to head and neck cancer forum, i am just going to wish your dad and you all the best, take care, Eddie
