Hi

my sister four weeks ago got a terminal cancer diagnosis pretty much out of the blue. She has adencarcinoma and secondary bone cancer. She’s amazing and is being very brave but I know she is getting low. I live far away but go to see her when I can. I want to support her as much as I can but am also aware how much everyone’s else’s lives are carrying on which must be hard for her.  Is there any advice people can give me , further ways to support her, she’s in a hospice trying to get more strength before having chemo. I haven’t processed this yet so can only imagine how she hasn’t either.
thanks

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll both find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I'm sorry to read that your sister has been diagnosed with incurable cancer and it's natural that you'd want to know how best to support her.

The online community is divided into different support forums so I'm going to recommend that you join the supporting someone with incurable cancer forum as you'll then connect directly with others who have a loved one living with cancer to ask questions, share experiences and get support.

To join, just click on the link I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

It would be great if you could put something about your sister's diagnosis and treatment so far into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

If you have any problems negotiating the community just reply to me and I'll be pleased to help if I can.
