Supporting mum with cancer

Hi,

My mum is living with incurable secondary breast cancer which has spread to bones.
she was diagnosed 22 months ago but over the last few months she seems to have deteriorated really fast.
I feel so lost and helpless in this situation and hoped there would be info on the same type of cancer, people dealing with their mum having cancer and any help or advice on how I can support her.
What do you do when the person you would go to during a hard time is the one person you can’t turn to about this.

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I'm sorry to read that your mum has secondary breast cancer and it's no wonder you're feeling as you do.

The online community is divided into different support groups so I'm going to recommend that you join the secondary breast cancer group where you can ask questions, share experiences and get support from others who have this type of cancer.

Another group for you to think about joining is either the carers only group, if you are your mum's carer, or the family and friends group if you're not her carer. Both groups are safe and supportive placed to discuss your worries and emotions with others who have a loved one living with cancer.

To join these groups, just click on the links I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

It would be great if you could put something about your mum's diagnosis and treatment into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
