Hey, I have been on operation stay alive for a little over a year now. 58 and very healthy until sudden diagnosis last August. I live in the US. Just found this forum tonight. I live alone and have had such a hard year. No more job, no more singing and playing music, my life is just so drastically different and I feel physically so sh*tty. I had such a great life and situations, I have 3 grown sons, they are wonderful and have done so much for me and with me this last year, but they have their own lives and live in different cities etc. I had so many great plans and lovely life things ahead ...I hoped. ....I am so depressed and prognosis is bleak. So sad , feel quite hopeless. Just looking for a pep talk I guess;//
Hi Juniee and a very warm welcome to the Macmillan Community but sorry to hear about your diagnoses. As you will quickly realise the Macmillan Community is a UK based cancer charity but we do well one folks from around the world but do understand that our health system is very different from the US
Navigating the cancer journey can be such a stressful and challenging time but getting support from people who have walked the ‘exact same' cancer type journey can help a lot.
The Community is divided into dedicated Cancer Specific Support Groups (Discussion Rooms) so can I recommend you join and post in our dedicated Ovarian Cancer and Living with Incredible Cancer Support Groups.
These groups are safe places to talk to others with a similar diagnosis, treatment experience, to ask questions and get support.
To connect in with the group click on these links> Ovarian cancer and Living with incurable cancer - incurable patients only (Please join the group but for everyones safety this will then have to be approved by the Macmillan Community Team so will not happen immediately) then once the group page opens click on “Click to Join” when the black banner appears or “Join” under “Group Tools” (this all depends on the device you are using)
When you are ready you can introduce yourself by clicking “+new” or “+” in the top right next to the group title. You can copy and paste the text from this post into your new post.
We also have our Ask an Expert section but do allow a few working days for a reply.
Do get back to me if you need further help navigating the community.
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
