Anticipatory grief

Hi all,

My mum was rushed into hospital 3 weeks ago with a blocked bowel. Yesterday it was confirmed she has bowel cancer. She has heart failure and various other health conditions so there is nothing they can do for her. She had a stent fitted 3 weeks ago, it came out so they put another one in yesterday. She was close to perforation and started peripheral shutdown. After an agonizing 24 hours, her bp and everything has come back up and she's happy. She doesn't accept that she has cancer and insists that she's not going anywhere. I know she will try and hang in for as long as possible. Knowing that I'm slowly going to lose her whilst I'm looking her is tearing me apart and I feel so angry at everything. She has told me not to go to the hospital tomorrow and have a day to rest. I can't focus on anything to try and take my mind of it all.

Thank you for reading.

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I'm sorry to read about your mum's recent diagnosis and I know how upsetting this will be for the whole family.

As the online community is divided up into different support groups, I'm going to recommend that you join the supporting someone with incurable cancer group where you'll connect directly with others in a similar situation.
