Having a baby after breast cancer and chemo

Hello there,

I am here to try and find some positive stories as I cannot seem to find anyone in my position. I am lucky that I have been cancer free for three years now. I had HER2 positive breast cancer and was treated with Chemo, Radiotherapy and I had half my breast removed along with 7 lymph nodes. I had been trying to have a baby for 10 years before my diagnosis with no luck due to egg quality. I had just decided to start trying with an egg donor at 44 when I got my diagnosis. Fast forward 5 years as I am still trying for my first baby at 49 with donor eggs. Chemo put me in the menopause which shouldn't make any difference with donor eggs. Is there anyone on here that has had a baby after chemo and menopause? We are on the wait list for a surrogate but this is taking a long time and is not ideal. Thanks all for listening.

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the Macmillan Community but sorry to hear about your journey and the challenges you have been facing..

Navigating the post cancer journey can be such a stressful and challenging time but getting support from people who have walked the ‘exact same' cancer type journey can help a lot.

The Community is divided into dedicated Cancer Specific Support Groups (Discussion Rooms) so can I recommend you join and post in our dedicated Breast cancer support group. This is a safe place to talk to others with a similar diagnosis, treatment experience, to ask questions and get support.

To connect in with the group click on this link> Breast cancer then once the group page opens click on “Click to Join” when the black banner appears or “Join” under “Group Tools” (this all depends on the device you are using)

When you are ready you can introduce yourself by clicking “+new” or “+” in the top right next to the group title. You can copy and paste the text from this post into your new post.

Do get back to me if you need further help navigating the community.
