Hi I have had two years of cancer treatment, starting with a sarcoma in my leg and after surgery I had radiotherapy for six weeks. Since then, the cancer has spread to both lungs and so I have had six chemotherapy sessions, finishing just last week. I feel like this nightmare will never end. Side effects I am having to deal with includes, an intolerable itchy rash all over my body and head, my finger nails are soft and painful, Im constantly thirsty with a dry mouth, and I've got low energy. Can anyone offer any advice as to how long before I start to feel like Im turning a corner.

  • Hi   and a very warm welcome to the Macmillan Community but sorry to hear about your ongoing challenge.

In some way I know how you feel although I have been on my incurable cancer journey for over 24 years now.

My main big gun treatments (750hrs chemo, 45 radiotherapy and 2 Donor Stem Cell Transplants) were between late 2013 to late 2015….. These were serious treatments (see my story in the link at the bottom) so my recovery took a good few years but I am turning 68 next month and back to living a great life.

Navigating the post treatment journey can be such a stressful and challenging time but you may find it helpful to getting support from people who have walked the ‘exact same' cancer type journey as my cancer is completely different.

The Community is divided into dedicated Cancer Specific Support Groups (Discussion Rooms) so can I recommend you join and post in our dedicated Soft tissue sarcomas and Lung, secondary cancer support groups. This is a safe place to talk to others with a similar diagnosis, treatment experience, to ask questions and get support.

To connect in with the group click on this link> Soft tissue sarcomas and Lung, secondary cancer then once the group page opens click on “Click to Join” when the black banner appears or “Join” under “Group Tools” (this all depends on the device you are using)

When you are ready you can introduce yourself by clicking “+new” or “+” in the top right next to the group title. You can copy and paste the text from this post into your new post.

Do get back to me if you need further help navigating the community.
