I was diagnosed with breast cancer in June and various scans were undertaken, CT, MRI, PET and resulting from these a secondary cancer was identified in my lung.
I am currently under the oncology dept at Barnet hospital having moved away from the breast specialists at Chase Farm due to the secondary aspect but was prescribed Letrozole a month ago and very recently Ribociclib.

being told of the secondary diagnosis was a big blow and I am still trying to come to terms with it all and watching my partner and family trying to cope with the news which is very painful. Having been well all my life, I am 68, this has knocked me for 6. Fear is a terrible thing but I am trying to confront this day by day and try to remain positive.

Thank you to MacMillan for this space to enable me to share my thoughts.

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I'm sorry to read that you've recently been diagnosed with secondary breast cancer and it's natural to be feeling as you do.

As the online community is divided up into different support groups I'm going to recommend that you join the secondary breast cancer group as that will give you the chance to connect directly with others who have had this type of cancer. There you can ask questions, share experiences and give and receive support.

To join, just click on the link I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

When you feel up to it, it would be great if you could put something about your diagnosis and treatment to date into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
