How do I prepare my young children (7 and 5) for the death of their grandmother? My eldest asked tonight what's wrong with her and when will she be better. I dodged the question as he suggested that she feels old. However, she's deteriorating fast and my children are bound to ask more questions. What do I say?
Hi Sian J and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.
Having a cancer diagnosis affects everyone in the family and it's natural to want to prepare your children for when their grandmother passes.
The online community is divided up into different support groups so I'm going to recommend that you join the family and friends group, where you can ask how others have told their children.
To join, just click on the link I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
