Out of blue diagnosis of spread cancer

Hello - wow this is never a place I thought I'd be. I've been very unwell for two months thinking it was coil related. Never did I imagine I'd walk out of A&E with a cancer diagnosis that's spread with unknown start point. That's as far as I've got, I'm 42 and mum to three gorgeous boys - I've had all scans but no biopsy yet. To say I'm lost in a world I don't know would be an understatement.

  • Hi,

I'm also up fretting at this hour, couldn't scroll past without letting you know that I'm here and I feel for you. I know how I felt when I was diagnosed and it's truly devastating, I also have 2 young children and the thoughts that fly through your head are difficult to experience and live with.

This is a whole new world that none of us want to be a part of but you can always find support and reassurance here. I was told the early days are the worst and I also believe that - the mental turmoil is awful. I found that the more we found out about my cancer, the easier it was to digest and understand. But of course that takes time.

Sending lots and lots of love

  • Thank you so much for taking the time to reply, it has meant the world to me on this first night Xx

  • I'm so sorry how self absorbed does my reply sound Cry I am very sorry for you too and sending lots of love X

  • That didn't even cross my mind, was just happy to be there Kissing heart

Not self absorbed at all xxx

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the Macmillan Community but sorry to hear about your ongoing diagnoses. When you think of cancer it’s always goi g to be someone else but sorry to hear it’s come calling at your door

Navigating the cancer journey can be such a stressful and challenging time but getting support from people who have walked the ‘exact same' cancer type journey can help a lot.

The Community is divided into dedicated Cancer Specific Support Groups (Discussion Rooms) so can I recommend you join and post in our dedicated Unknown primary cancer support group. This is a safe place to talk to others with a similar diagnosis, treatment experience, to ask questions and get support.

To connect in with the group click on this link> Unknown primary cancer then once the group page opens click on “Click to Join” when the black banner appears or “Join” under “Group Tools” (this all depends on the device you are using)

When you are ready you can introduce yourself by clicking “+new” or “+” in the top right next to the group title. You can copy and paste the text from this post into your new post.

The Macmillan Support Line is open 8am-8pm (timings may differ across services) 7 days a week on 0808 808 00 00. This service provides cancer information, practical information, emotional support, benefits/financial guidance or just a listening ear.

We also have our Ask an Expert section but do allow a few working days for a reply.

Talking to people face to face can be very helpful so do check to see if you have any Local Macmillan Support in your area, do also check for a local Maggie's Centre as these folks are amazing and give support to all the family.

Do get back to me if you need further help navigating the community but in the meantime all the very best.
