Hi I recently diagnosed with IDC breast cancer, I had a lumpsectomy 3 weeks ago, which they aspirated a 4cm cyst and took out a further 3 cm lump.

The lump came back classified as a Metaplastic breast cancer, which I was told was rare. Also the margin was not clear, so had another op today to remove some more.

The lympth nodes they removed in the first op were clear.

I just wanted to see has I'm not completely sure of the difference between IDC and metaplastic.

I know its rare and is faster growing and can spread maybe quicker?

My Dr said if they get clear margins now as its not in my lympth nodes it hasnt spread anywhere else. I read that it can spread and does not have to be in the lympth nodes to spread to other parts of the body.

For my own peace of mind can i ask for a bone scan or CT scan to be 100% or are they right?

I already have lung issues and had a 10cm growth removed 6 years ago. They found the growth  and thought it was cancer but then said they couldn't identify it...but it wasn't cancer.

I just have felt talked to rather then discussed with in a couple of my consults and want to know what I can ask for

Thanks

Leona

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the Macmillan Community but sorry to hear about your diagnoses.

Navigating the cancer journey can be such a stressful and challenging time but getting support from people who have walked the ‘exact same' cancer type journey can help a lot.

The Community is divided into dedicated Cancer Specific Support Groups (Discussion Rooms) and I do see that you have already joined our dedicated Breast cancer support group. This is a safe place to talk to others with a similar diagnosis, treatment experience, to ask questions and get support.

To connect in with the group click on this link> Breast cancer then once the group page opens you can introduce yourself by clicking “+new” or “+” in the top right next to the group title. You can copy and paste the text from this post into your new post.

The Macmillan Support Line is open 8am-8pm (timings may differ across services) 7 days a week on 0808 808 00 00. This service provides cancer information, practical information, emotional support, benefits/financial guidance or just a listening ear.

We also have our Ask an Expert section but do allow a few working days for a reply.

Talking to people face to face can be very helpful so do check to see if you have any Local Macmillan Support in your area, do also check for a local Maggie's Centre as these folks are amazing and give support to all the family.

Do get back to me if you need further help navigating the community but in the meantime all the very best.
