Glad this group is here as I could do with a bit of support. Also hope I can help with some insight though I’m relatively new on this journey.
At time of writing I’m just over 7 weeks post nerve-sparing robotic prostatectomy. I was diagnosed Gleason 7 following a biopsy. Gave a blood sample for PSA two days ago - no results yet.
Overall I’m doing well. I’ve been back at work in my private psychotherapy practice since day 10. Living a relatively active lifestyle. Built up to jogging roughly 3k two or three times a week for the last three weeks.
Of the two expected after effects, I’m struggling more with the incontinence. While I’m aware that statistically speaking it’s very early, I often feel undignified and pessimistic and get a bit preoccupied with it. I have good days and not so good. Good = 3/4 Tena level 2. Not so good = 6.
With regard ED I’ll just say there are signs of life and leave it at that…
Hi Redmonkey63 and a warm welcome to the Macmillan Community but I am so sorry to hear about your diagnoses.
The cancer journey can be such a stressful and challenging time but getting support from others who are dealing with the ‘exact same' cancer type can help a lot.
I do see that you have already joined our dedicated Prostate cancer support group. This group is a safe place to talk to others with a similar diagnosis, treatment experience, to ask questions and get support.
To connect with a group click on this link Prostate cancer then once the group page opens you can introduce yourself by clicking “+new” or “+” in the top right next to the group title.
You can copy and paste the text from this post into your new post.
The Macmillan Support Line is open 8am-8pm (timings may differ across services) 7 days a week on 0808 808 00 00. This service provides cancer information, practical information, emotional support, benefits/financial guidance or just a listening ear.
We also have our Ask an Expert section but do allow a few working days for a reply.
Talking to people face to face can be very helpful so do check to see if you have any Local Macmillan Support in your area, do also check for a local Maggie's Centre as these folks are amazing.
Do get back to me if you need further help navigating the community.
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
