I have just had a biopsy on my left breast and am getting lots of pain in left arm like you get after a flu jab, is this normal, has anyone else had this?

  • Hi and a warm welcome to the Macmillan Community but I am so sorry to hear about the pain you are experiencing. When you are in any doubt about pain or symptoms you should always call your medical team or 111 for advice.

The cancer journey can be such a stressful and challenging time but getting support from others who are dealing with the ‘exact same' cancer type can help a lot.

The Community is actually divided into dedicated Cancer Support Groups (Discussion Rooms) I am making an assumption that you are being investigated for Breast Cancer (do get back to me if I am wrong) so can I recommend you consider joining and posting in our dedicated Breast cancer support group. This group is a safe place to talk to others with a similar diagnosis, treatment experience, to ask questions and get support.

To connect with a group click on this link Breast cancer then once the group page opens click on “Click to Join” when the black banner appears or “Join” under “Group Tools” (this all depends on the device you are using)

When you are ready you can introduce yourself by clicking “+new” or “+” in the top right next to the group title. You can copy and paste the text from this post into your new post.

It’s a challenging time for you so you may want to use the Macmillan Support Line is open 8am-8pm (timings may differ across services) 7 days a week on 0808 808 00 00. This service provides cancer information, practical information, emotional support, benefits/financial guidance or just a listening ear.

We also have our Ask an Expert section but do allow a few working days for a reply.

Talking to people face to face can be very helpful so do check to see if you have any Local Macmillan Support in your area, do also check for a local Maggie's Centre as these folks are amazing.

Do get back to me if you need further help navigating the community.

  • Thank you Thehighlander, As its the weekend I might call 1 1 1.

I have been really calm until I woke in the middle of the night, last night. I go for my biopsy results on the 29th but the Dr seemed very convinced it is cancer, and is about 10mm in size.

We have had a tough time recently as my husband has just had open surgury for Abdominal Aortic Anurisum. We were planning a long holiday in the sun and now this has happened.

  • Sorry to hear the challenges you are having.

Yes do call this in. I had a large biopsy (one of many over my 24 years) done in late 2013 on my neck and I got an infection in it and the pain was not just in the biopsy area it did go down my left side and arm….. take a few breaths and call this in ((hugs))

  • Hi Alision218

I had a biopsy on Thursday , they told me I'd get my results back in a few weeks too.

Before I had the biopsy, the lump I had was painful and it's still is now. Still have the dressing on which I'll attempt to take of tomorrow.

I haven't had any arm pain only discomfort, just noticed today bruising around the dressing so I imagine it's going to be worse looking when I take the dressing off.

I'd definitely go an get arm pain checked if it were me. Hugging
