Hi guys I'm new here and just looking for people to chat with. My daughter was diagnosed with hodgkin lymphoma 2 years ago in Dec, she did harsh chemotherapy and happy to say was told she was in remission in April this year. So we were made up as you can imagine, how ever 3 days after she was given the all clear I was rushed into hospital as i though i was having a heart attack. No it turned out i have terminal cancer. To say we are shocked is an understatement. I have oesophageal cancer. I have had a number of tests, on one of my tests it showed up I also have lymphoma cancer. When I was first rushed in I was in icu and my consultant didn't think i would survive the weekend but here I am away to start 5 weeks of chemotherapy and radiotherapy to try and hopefully give me a couple of more months. Scared to say the least. Life is so unfair. But know what, I am grateful to be able to make memories with my husband and kids , some people don't get that chance. Sorry for the essay x

  • Hi  and warm welcome to the Macmillan Online Community although sorry that you had to find us and especially sorry to hear about both your daughters and your diagnosis.

I am Mike and I help out around our Lymphoma groups. I was diagnosed way back in 1999 at 43 with a rare, incurable but treatable type of Low Grade Non Hodgkin’s Lymphoma eventually reaching Stage 4a in late 2013 so although my Lymphoma ‘type’ may be different from you daughters I do appreciate the challenges of this journey rather well.

As for your cancer have you been told that the growth in your oesophagus is actually oesophageal cancer or is it actually Lymphoma?…… there is a distinct difference…. and can make a difference as to how this will go.

My type of Lymphoma is incurable and back in late 2013 a growth in my neck was basically strangling me to death….. but I am still here all these years later ((hugs))

  • Hi wow you have been through alot. My daughter had stage 3 hodgkin lymphoma. She has done amazing. Her treatment stopped last July. She gets a check up every 3 months jist now. She is waiting for a date for a ct scan to check everything is still good.

Yeah I have been told I have a gastro-oesophageal junction tumour. My actual cancer name is adenocarcinoma. Also I had 3 ulcers which were bleeding. The cancer in my lymph nodes was discovered when they did another scope and then I had a pet scan.

  • So pleased that your daughter is doing good but so sorry to hear about your diagnosis.

The Community is actually divided into dedicated Cancer Support Groups (Discussion Rooms) so can I recommend you consider joining and posting in our dedicated Gullet (oesophagus) cancer and our Living with incurable cancer - incurable patients only (Please join the group but for everyones safety this will then have to be approved by the Macmillan Community Team so will not happen immediately) support groups. These groups are safe places to talk to others with a similar diagnosis, treatment experience, to ask questions and get support.

To connect with a group click on the link above then once the group pages open click on “Click to Join” when the black banner appears or “Join” under “Group Tools” (this all depends on the device you are using)

When you are ready you can introduce yourself by clicking “+new” or “+” in the top right next to the group title.

You can copy and paste the text from this post into your new post…… you can also scroll through other members posts and click “Reply” to get involved.

It’s a challenging time for you so you may want to use the Macmillan Support Line is open 8am-8pm (timings may differ across services) 7 days a week on 0808 808 00 00. This service provides cancer information, practical information, emotional support, benefits/financial guidance or just a listening ear.

We also have our Ask an Expert section but do allow a few working days for a reply.

Talking to people face to face can be very helpful so do check to see if you have any Local Macmillan Support in your area, do also check for a local Maggie's Centre as these folks are amazing.

Do get back to me if you need further help navigating the community…… ((hugs))
