Hello everyone,
I was just wondering if anyone is living alone with cancer. How do you manage? What can I do to prepare myself and how do I ask for help from friends without becoming a burden to them? Can I be sent home after an operation if I live alone?
Also how do you keep a member of the family away if you don't want their 'help'? A person who is bad for your mental health at the best of times but who you know you won't be able to deal with when you are feeling physically/mentally weak and vulnerable.
Thank you
Hi Rosey Posey and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.
I'm sorry to read that you have recently been diagnosed with cancer and it's natural to wonder if you'll be able to cope while living on your own. I think that will largely depend on what type of cancer you have and what treatment you'll be receiving.
As the online community is divided up into different support groups, I'm going to recommend that you join the appropriate group for your type of cancer so that you can connect directly with people who can tell you how they coped. To do this you could either tell me the type of cancer you have, and I can then give you a direct link to that group, or you could look through this list.
It would be great if you could pop something about your diagnosis and treatment so far into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
