Hi all, this is my first post on here. I was diagnosed in February with breast cancer, ER+, HER2-, 2 lymph nodes affected, grade 3. I’ve had a mastectomy, reconstruction and lymph node clearance. Just over half way through chemo (EC/T) and I’m really struggling with this round of docetaxol.
The biggest problem for me seems to be that I get constipated a day or two after the chemo but then it swings the other way and I end up with violent diarrhoea. Each chemo cycle it’s got worse. I’m not managing to eat much and I’m very underweight so don’t have reserves to draw on. I just feel so wrung out and drained and have spent the day pretty much horizontal, feeling shivery and achy. I have spoken with health care professionals today and they don’t think there’s an infection; just my body struggling to cope with everything.
What I’m wondering is if anyone else has had similar bowel issues with chemo, if you figured out what caused it (chemo drugs/ anti-sickness/ steroids/….) and what helped you get back on track?
Thanks!
Hi SunnyFields and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.
I'm sorry to read about the side effects you're experiencing while having treatment for breast cancer.
The online community is divided up into different support groups and I can see you've already found and joined the breast cancer group. This group would be the perfect place to ask your questions, so when you feel ready to post there, just start a new post in the same way as you did here.
It would be great if you could pop something about your diagnosis and treatment so far into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
I have had the same reaction with Docetaxol constipation then diarrhoea- lasted for the best part of two weeks. My oncologist has prescribed immodium which helps us medication to reduce heartburn and indigestion. Also suffering from extreme fatigue and shooting pains around the whole of my body. I take ibuprofen for that. My chemo nurse said u fortunately this is normal reaction to Docetaxol and not likely to be the tethered drugs I have also started.
hope you start to feel better soon xx
