I found a lump two weeks ago, attended the Dr's the following morning. On Friday I went to my local hospital for a mammogram, ultrasound, biopsy and a clip inserted. I was told that day that the Dr thinks I have breast cancer. Is this normal to be told on the day ? I know what I heard but my husband has said to wait until I go back on 15th August to discuss my treatment plan as he believes that they'll tell me then if i have cancer or not. I sat with a brest cancer nurse afterwards so I know I've not got this wrong about what the Doctor said. Has anyone else been told they have cancer without having the results from the biopsy back ?
Hi Penners and welcome to the Macmillan Community but I am so sorry to hear about your ongoing diagnoses.
The diagnosis journey can be such a stressful and challenging time but getting support from others who are dealing with the ‘exact same' cancer type can help a lot.
The Community is actually divided into dedicated Cancer Support Groups (Discussion Rooms) so can I recommend you consider joining and posting in our dedicated Breast cancer support group. This group is a safe place to talk to others with a similar diagnosis, treatment experience, to ask questions and get support.
To connect with a group click on this link Breast cancer then once the group page opens click on “Click to Join” when the black banner appears or “Join” under “Group Tools” (this all depends on the device you are using)
When you are ready you can introduce yourself by clicking “+new” or “+” in the top right next to the group title.
You can copy and paste the text from this post into your new post.
It’s a challenging time for you so you may want to use the Macmillan Support Line is open 8am-8pm (timings may differ across services) 7 days a week on 0808 808 00 00. This service provides cancer information, practical information, emotional support or just a listening ear.
Do get back to me if you need further help navigating the community.
Hi Penners
Yes, I was 'sort of' told the same day, after going through all the investigations you did. My consultant just said that my lump was 'unusual', that she wasn't sure what it was, and she could not give me good news. I had to wait two weeks for the path lab results to come back, so when I was phoned with the 'bad' news it was not a surprise, and I accepted it.
Just to say that mine was a secondary, not primary breast cancer, and it has completely disappeared! I have been having immunotherapy for a year now, and I am feeling well. The breast lump went very quickly after I started treatment.
I hope you are coping with the waiting for news, and they come up with a good treatment plan for you! Keeping my fingers crossed for you
Thank you Candysmum, I can’t wait for 15th August when I go back to the hospital and hear what my plan is. Parts of last Friday are such a blur, and it’s still not sunk in. This is not one of those forums you want to be involved with but the information you are all sending me is so helpful. I’m pleased to hear that are feeling well….how we take things for granted! X
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
