Kidney Cancer

I have just been diagnosed with Kidney Cancer. They will be removing my left kidney in September or early October. I am 57 years old and took early retirement this march. Typical isn't it. I believe that I was so lucky in the fact that they caught it by accident when they did a chest ct scan on me and caught the top of my left kidney which is where the cancer is. I had to have another ct scan for my kidneys and then my biopsy operation confirmed the cancer. I still am in a daze really. But I know that I will be in good hands. Not sure on the recovery period after this sort of operation though.

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I'm sorry to read that you've just been diagnosed with kidney cancer and I recognise that feeling of being in a haze.

As the online community is divided up into different support groups I'm going to recommend that you join and post in the kidney cancer group, which is a great place to ask questions, share experiences and get support.

To join just click on the link I've created and, once you've joined, you can start new posts like you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

It would be great if you could pop something about your diagnosis and treatment so far into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
