Hello everyone,

My completion surgery for Hurthle Cell thyroid carcinoma is tomorrow, it'll be my second cancer operation. I'm resting today after packing my hospital bags. I'm feeling nervous especially as the surgeon made a mistake and damaged my vocal cords in the first operation. It'll be a relief to get it over and done with. Does anyone have tips for dealing with anxiety  before an operation?

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I'm sorry to read that you have  damaged vocal chords after your first surgery so i can understand why you'd feel anxious ahead of your operation tomorrow.

The online community is divided up into different support groups and I can see you've already joined and posted in the thyroid cancer group which is a great place to ask questions, share experiences and get support

While you're waiting for replies to your post in the thyroid cancer group, it would be great if you could pop something about your diagnosis and treatment so far into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

  • Thanks for that, I've just added info to my profile as you suggested.
