Life after cancer

Hi all,

it’s been almost a year since I was diagnosed with stage 3 bowel cancer at the age of 38. Operation and chemo are done and I returned to work 2 months ago.

im looking for support now as I feel kinda lost. I have around 40% chance the cancer will return so I feel like I’m just waiting.

everyone I know expects me to be back to normal. But everyday I am reminded either from my scars, toilet habits or even how I generally feel.
I cannot escape the what if, or when. I’ve been offered not emotional support from professionals and have had no contact since my last chemo session.

  • Hi   and welcome to the Online Community but I am sorry to hear about your diagnoses and the challenges that you are now dealing with.

Navigating the post treatment journey can be such a stressful and challenging time but getting support from others who are dealing with the ‘exact same' cancer type can help a lot.

The Community is actually divided into dedicated Support Groups (Discussion Rooms) I see you have already joined our Bowel (colon and rectum) cancer group but you may also want to have a look at our general Life after cancer support group. This group is a safe place to talk to others with a similar diagnosis, treatment experience, to ask questions and get support.

To join a group first click on the “Bold Link” I have created above then once the group page opens click on “Click to Join” when the black banner appears or “Join” under “Group Tools” (this all depends on the device you are using)

You can then put up your own post when you’re ready by clicking “+new” or “+” in the top right next to the group title. You can copy and paste the text from this post into your new post. You can also scroll through other members posts and click “Reply” to get involved.

Talking to people face to face can be very helpful so do check to see if you have any Local Macmillan Support in your area, do also check for a local Maggie's Centre as these folks are amazing.

Do get back to me if you need further help navigating the community.
