Last week I was lucky enough to finish 2weeks of radiotherapy marking the end of my acute treatment for breast cancer. I am feeling very tired though and had to take the week off work. The tiredness isn't too bad but if I do anything I end up having to lay down afterwards. Is this normal? I wasn't expecting it as my oncologist said I should work through my radiotherapy. Although the tiredness isn't too bad it isn't getting better and I can't see myself having enough energy to work next week. What should I expect over the next few weeks? I feel really guilty about not working as when I rest I feel fine.

  • Hi   and welcome to the Online Community but I am sorry to hear about your diagnoses and your ongoing challenges.

I had 45 sessions of radiotherapy for my type of cancer and my Consultant Radiologist said that having radiotherapy was like being put in a microwave and like food that is taken out of a micro it has to sit for a period of time........ so at the moment, 2 weeks after your last zap the treatment is still actually working so fatigue will be around for some time to come.

Navigating the cancer journey can be such a stressful and challenging time but getting support from others who are dealing with the ‘exact same' cancer type can help a lot.

The Community is actually divided into dedicated Support Groups (Discussion Rooms) so can I recommend you consider joining and posting in our dedicated Breast cancer support group. This group is a safe place to talk to others with a similar diagnosis, treatment experience, to ask questions and get support.

To join a group first click on the “Bold Link” I have created above then once the group page opens click on “Click to Join” when the black banner appears or “Join” under “Group Tools” (this all depends on the device you are using)

You can then put up your own post when you’re ready by clicking “+new” or “+” in the top right next to the group title. You can copy and paste the text from this post into your new post. You can also scroll through other members posts and click “Reply” to get involved.

Do get back to me if you need further help navigating the community.
