So sorry to hear of your mums diagnosis. My mum was recently diagnosed with stage 3A lung cancer. I know it can be frustrating when people say stay positive, I think no one really knows what to say and that’s what usually comes to mind. Have you contacted the MacMillan nurses? They offer fantastic support to cancer patients and their families. You could access support through them.
You can call the number at the bottom 0808 808 00 00 or they also offer chat service online from 8am-8pm.
Hi Collette b and welcome to the Online Community but so sorry to hear about your mum’s diagnosis.
A cancer diagnosis like this in the family can be such a challenging and stressful time but getting support from others who are dealing with the ‘exact same' support challenges can help a lot.
The Community is actually divided into Support Groups (Discussion Rooms) and I can see that you have already joined and posted in our Carers only group, you may find our Supporting someone with incurable cancer helpful as well. These support groups will help you deal with the practical and emotional challenges of supporting your mum as you will connect with others navigating the exact same support challenges.
It’s a challenging time for you so you may want to use the Macmillan Support Line is open 8am-8pm (timings may differ across services) 7 days a week on 0808 808 00 00 or via Webchat and Email too. This service provides cancer information, practical information, emotional support, benefits/financial guidance or just a listening ear.
Talking to people face to face can be very helpful so do check to see if you have any Local Macmillan Support in your area, do also check for a local Maggie's Centre as these folks are amazing.
Do get back to me if you need further help navigating the community.
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
