I was told on Thursday its highly likely I have stomach cancer after CT Scan.

I'm stunned very anxious and in a sort of denial I think.

I cannot get my head round it or how to tell people. I've told no one yet.

I think I'm fearful of voicing it for real, though I realise I have just done so.

I'm also fearful of reactions, being smothered. But also how others will feel and how they ll treat me. I know it will be difficult for them too.

I'm almost paralysed it seems, really difficult to take this step as out of the blue.

I'm sure others are or have been feeling the same. Any suggestions or mutual support welcome. Thank you

  • Hi   and welcome to the Online Community but I am sorry to hear about your possible diagnoses.

Navigating the cancer journey can be such a stressful and challenging time but getting support from others who are dealing with the ‘exact same' cancer type can help a lot.

The Community is actually divided into dedicated Support Groups (Discussion Rooms) and I can see that you gave already joined our dedicated Stomach cancer support group. This group is a safe place to talk to others with a similar diagnosis, treatment experience, to ask questions and get support.

To connect with the group click on the “Bold Link I have created above then once the group page opens you can then put up your own post when you’re ready by clicking “+new” or “+” in the top right next to the group title. You can copy and paste the text from this post into your new post. You can also scroll through other members posts and click “Reply” to get involved.

It’s a challenging time for you so you may want to use the Macmillan Support Line is open 8am-8pm (timings may differ across services) 7 days a week on 0808 808 00 00 or via Webchat and Email too. This service provides cancer information, practical information, emotional support or just a listening ear.

Do get back to me if you need further help navigating the community.

  • Hey Janes, It is a week since I was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer. I’m turning 31 tomorrow and have a little (8year old boy) it is completely normal to feel in denial I still feel that way now and I’m a week in. It’s such a surreal experience being told you have cancer. It’s been a rollercoaster of emotions daily sometimes hourly. My best advice is just take it hour by hour to start with. Then gradually it will ease to a day at a time. Just remember that you are not alone in this. If you need anyone to talk to I am free to message and will help if I can. Look after yourself.
