Hi,
I don't even know where to start.
My husband has been diagnosed with bowel cancer and is starting treatment today (5 and half weeks radiotherapy).
He is a coach driver and didn't know how it would effect him so told his boss he will need to take some time off to concentrate on treatment. He has worked for him for round 6 months.
Long story short his boss paid his last wage and sent him his p45 saying he would be better off claiming from the government than getting SSP.
Tried to claim UC but we don't qualify. I work and we do have some savings.
I am so annoyed and frustrated as my husband has always worked and never claimed anything, I know I am not the one with Cancer but I don't know how much longerI will hold up. I am stressed out with everything, work, money worries, looking after my husband and we also have a 14 year old son.
Sorry for the rant I just needed to vent.
X
Hi Kell Sug I am so sorry to read about the challenges you and your husband are facing.
There are many facets to the cancer journey and the financial side is often a big headache.
I see you have already joined and posted in our Bowel (colon and rectum) cancer group…. but when it comes to the practical and emotional challenges of supporting your husband and indeed yourself you may benefit from joining and posting in our Carers only support group where you will connect with others navigating the exact same support challenges.
As for the work and financial issues can I suggest you call the Macmillan Support Line. It is open 8am-8pm (timings may differ across services) 7 days a week on 0808 808 00 00.
This service not only provides cancer information, practical information, emotional support or just a listening ear.…….. but more importantly you can talk with one of our benefits/financial/work guidance team.
They will be able to review your situation and give you advice as to what support is available and to ensure that what your husbands employer has says and done is the correct way forward.
Do get back to me if you need further help navigating the community.
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
