Half info given, then just left ....

Hi, new here in this scary territory.

Following an infection in my gallbladder and ultrasound scan, a lump was spotted on my kidney. Follow-up CT scan brought limited information from hospital. A phone call 3 weeks later to tell me the lump was "more likely than not" to be cancer, then left with no further communication.

I have been referred for another CT, in August, and a phone consultation with an anaesthetist,  but no explanation why.

I feel the communication has been dreadful. My GP has agreed this is not good practice and has said he will write to encourage information sharing with me - the patient.

Thanks for reading. I just needed to vent a bit. I'm a strong, resilient person, but to leave someone hanging with a half diagnosis then not following up, doesn't do my mental wellbeing very good.

    1. It is terrible the way you have been treated and I can empathise. Communication has been awful in my experience aswell, I have had to chase everything up myself. One team doesn't talk to another and it may be an  everyday thing for them but it is a scary situation to be In  for the individual. Hope you hear more soon and good luck x
  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

It sounds like you've been through a great deal recently and poor communication is just not acceptable.

I can see that you've already found and joined the kidney cancer group which is a great place to ask questions, share experiences and get support. When you feel ready to post there, I'm sure the other group members will try their best to answer your questions and share their experiences with you.

It would be great if you could pop something about your diagnosis and tests so far into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
