Hi all,
Tomorrow it will be 4 weeks since my lymph node surgery and I still haven’t got a follow up appointment from hospital for post op results yet. Does this mean that my case is not urgent and I’m probably cured from all the surgeries?
trying not to worry but very curious as to why my results are taking so long to come through.
Hi Sonia101 and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.
Waiting for results is always a stressful time but the likely reason that you don't have your results yet is either that the pathology laboratories in your area are very busy and/or the MDT (multi disciplinary team) meeting, where your results are discussed, hasn't happened yet.
If it's gone past the length of time you were told you should have your results by, if you have been given the contact details of a cancer nurse specialist (CNS), sometimes referred to as a keyworker or Macmillan Nurse, you could give them a call to find out what's happening. Alternatively, if you don't have the CNS contact details you could give your consultant's secretary a call and she should be able to help.
You haven't said what cancer you are being tested for and, as the online community is divided up into different support groups, if you can tell me I can give you a direct link to the group where you could ask what length of time others have had to wait recently. Alternatively, you could look through this list and choose the appropriate one for you.

Hi,
thanks for replying. I try not to call and chase up too often as I know the NHS is very busy. I called last week and the BCN said they were having a discussion about me the next day. I will call her again tomorrow.
it is stressful waiting but I’m trying to distract myself a lot. I’m listening to loud music right now ( sorry neighbours lol )
I was diagnosed with multi-focal invasive ductal breast cancer in left breast only in March. Since then I’ve had a mastectomy, emergency evacuation surgery for a haemotoma and axillary lymph node clearance surgery.
I’m very curious to know what treatment is coming up next. I don’t want to guess. The consultant surgeon said I will have anti-hormone tablets . I’m trying to be hopeful and I hope I get discharged with tablets so I can get on with the rest of my life.
Hi Sonia101
That's good to hear that you were going to be discussed at last week's MDT meeting. Hopefully when you speak to your BCN tomorrow she'll have more information for you. Don't ever feel that you shouldn't be ringing up your BCN as part of their job is to keep patients up to date and to be a point of contact if you have questions.
This is the link to the breast cancer group, which is a great place to ask questions, share experiences and get support. To join, just click on the link I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here, and join in with existing conversations by clicking on reply.
I had breast cancer last year and after a lumpectomy, had chemotherapy and then radiotherapy. The treatment will be tailored to your specific circumstances so may well just be anti-hormone tablets.
It would be great if you could pop something about your diagnosis and treatment so far into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
