Hi All. After tests and scans over several weeks after finding a lump in my abdomen diagnosed with high grade NHL. Up until a week ago no real symptoms but then it started suddenly, loss of appetite, extreme fatigue, sweats day and night, shortness of breath. Abdomen is very bloated feel like it is going to pop. Chemo [CHOP] to start next week. Eating is difficult always feel stuffed. Any idea if first chemo will offer any relief? Thanks in advance.
Hi MarkD and warm welcome to the Macmillan Online Community although sorry that you had to find us and especially sorry to hear about your Lymphoma diagnosis.
I am Mike and I help out around our Lymphoma groups. I was diagnosed way back in 1999 at 43 with a rare, incurable but treatable type of Low Grade Non Hodgkin’s Lymphoma eventually reaching Stage 4a in late 2013 so although my Lymphoma ‘type’ may be different I do appreciate the challenges of this journey rather well.
With over 60 types and sub-types of Lymphoma we can’t have a group for every type but these are our main Lymphoma groups below.
General Non Hodgkin's Lymphoma
These groups are safe places to talk to others with a similar diagnosis, treatment experience, to ask questions and get support.
To join a group first click on the “Bold Link” I have created above for the group tour type of NHL fits then once the group page opens click on “Click to Join” when the black banner appears or “Join” under “Group Tools” (this all depends on the device you are using)
You can then put up your own post when you’re ready by clicking “+new” or “+” in the top right next to the group title. You can copy and paste the text from this post into your new post.
As an initial answer to you question….
Any idea if first chemo will offer any relief?
….. based on my experience the answer would be yes.
I will keep an eye open for you but if you are not sure what type you have pleased do get back to me on this post and I will help you out further.
Thank you Mike. Today admitted to hospital they are going to drain excess fluid from my abdomen to make things more comfortable. I look like I swallowed a beach ball ! Apparently the hospital say this is quite a common side effect of type B diffuse cell lymphoma. Will let you al know how it goes.
Thanks again
Mark
Hi Mark, yes this sounds normal for how your NHL is presenting.
I see that you have already joined the dedicated Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma support group so do go over and introduce yourself to the folks.
You will be amazed at how effective treatments like CHOP can be. I had the big brother of CHOP - R-EPOCH and it was amazing what it did - you can see my full story through the link below.
