Soooo angry and disappointed with family

I understand and get the statistics 1 in 2

but what I wasn’t ready for was the cancer head to the side and sad look of  so you’re going to die and worse the silence

so not sure how to deal  any help and words of experience would help - I know it’s late thanks  Pray

  • Hi  and welcome to the Online Community but so sorry to hear about your diagnosis.

I have been on my incurable blood cancer journey for over 24 years, I have had lots of treatments, relapsed multiple times, lost my hair 3 times…… but I am still here living a great life. The one thing in all this time was I did not let other peoples reactions or lack of understanding define me in any way…… my family and I define how ‘we’ walk the journey…… and when required we make this clear to people who say and do the most silly things…….. purely out of educating people as to how it feels to walk the cancer journey and on the whole people appreciate this honesty.

Navigating the cancer journey can be such a stressful and challenging time but getting support from others who are dealing with the ‘exact same' cancer type can help a lot.

The Community is actually divided into dedicated Support Groups (Discussion Rooms) but you don’t say what type of cancer you have but if you care to have a look through THIS LIST you will find all our many dedicated cancer support groups listed.

These groups are safe places to talk to others who may have a similar diagnosis, treatment experience, to ask questions and get support from members who are navigating the same journey.

Have a look through the LIST above and once you find the group for your cancer type you can join the group by selecting “Click to Join” when the black banner appears or “Join” under “Group Tools” (this all depends on the device you are using)

You can then put up your own post when you’re ready by clicking “+new” or “+” in the top right next to the group title. You can copy and paste the text from this post into your new post. You can also scroll through other members posts and click “Reply” to get involved.

Our Support Line teams are available 7 days a week, 8am-8pm on freephone 0808 808 00 00, email or live webchat where you will find one of team there to help you out. We also have our Ask an Expert section but do allow a few working days for a reply.

Talking to people face to face can be very helpful so do check to see if you have any Local Macmillan Support in your area, do also check for a local Maggie's Centre as these folks are amazing.

Do get back to me if you need further help navigating the community.

  • Hi Mike,

thank you for your reply and great advice.  24 years I’m sure you’ve heard it all and then some.
My husband and I are definitely going to adopt your advice. I have breast cancer and waiting for MRI & CT results so a little in limbo at the moment due to start chemo in the next couple of weeks - all a bit daunting.

will definitely check out the website and look at the appropriate forums.
    Thanks again

  • Good morning  , I have just arrived home in Inverness after a 24hr blur of a visit to London speaking at a conference held by a top Pharmaceutical Company specifically looking at my type of rare cancer (you can see my story through the link below)…… I was the voice for everyone who lives with my condition….

Do connect in with the Breast cancer group as you will get some great real life support.

Yes it’s all rubbish getting a cancer diagnosis but in all history…… we are now dealing with cancer far better than we have ever done and this is only getting better…… the anger you have….. turn it against the uninvited guest you have in your body and focus on evicting the cancer….. you may have some rough days but just remember if you are feeling brought what is your cancer feeling.

All the very best on your unwanted journey ((hugs))
