Firstly apologies, im sure if I scrolled through there would be lots of similar advice but im sure many understand how overwhelming the amount of information can be. I cant handle how much a google search produces and I dont want to be dragged into a rabbit hole...
Im hoping to get some advice and links to great resources that can help me support my Mum after a recent breast cancer diagnosis in its early/mid stage. I trust the proffessionals in cancer care but I worry about how overworked/underpaid many are and the affects of industrial action. My main points are:
- Living in a different city without access to a car and working full time, what advice is there on how to best support when distance and work is a barrier?
- Reccommendations on resources others has found helpful other than generic google advice?
- How do others deal with this anxiety of the strain on the NHS and what are the signs that reassure you are getting the best possible care? Are there any red flags to be aware of?
Apologies I am probably writing this whilst still in a state of shock. Info on breast cancer is so overwhelming on the internet, Id appreciate more focused responses that others have found to help a son care for their Mum (with support of wider family and husband still) whilst myself still dealing with issues of distance and work responsibilities that make it difficult to be present...
Hi chrislikewtf and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.
I'm sorry to read that your mum has recently been diagnosed with breast cancer and I know what a difficult time this will be for the whole family.
My own experience with being treated for breast cancer is that the NHS really does seem to pull out all the stops and none of my treatment was delayed.
The online community is divided up into different support groups, so I'm going to recommend that you join the breast cancer group, which is a great place to ask questions and share experiences, and also the family and friends group, which is a safe and supportive place to discuss your worries and emotions.
To join, just click on the links I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here, and join in with existing conversations by clicking on reply.
It would be great if you could pop something about your mum's diagnosis and treatment so far into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
