Hi all, just a little worried. I went through 2 week wait in 2021 and had hysterscopy and polyps removed biopsy normal phew, fast forward 23 months and spotting again, cramps and backache. Saw Gp and sent on 2 week fast track again. Scans completed and saw consultant who said I had a polyp on scan but also thickening of womb lining and they could nt see ovaries. I am 8 years post menopause. keeping me on fast track and book for surgery, investigations.

Just concerned as put it down to polyp and thought ohh just be same as last time but letter today stated hysterscopy, polyeptomy endometrial biopsies due to womb thickness 16 mm and also further investgations needed under general due to not been able to see ovaries on scan. Booked for pre-op on friday and the invetsigations ect on 4th of july. Feeling really bloated, struggling with eating meals feeling full quickly , back ache and cramping not sure if its just stress. Just getting worried as I hadnt realised about womb thickness as been an issue post menopause, had focused on polyp now more worried about womb thickness. I  know its stupid to worry until test done but struggling with the wait.

I didnt mention bloating, problems with eating ect as been trying gluten free for a few months due to probelms with eating and hadnt connected the two, I know they may not be connected or might just be stress. Is 16 mm unusual ?

sorry it this is a bit disjointed.

  • Hi  and welcome to the Online Community but I am sorry to hear about your ongoing challenges. Navigating the cancer journey can be such a stressful and challenging time but getting support from others who are dealing with the ‘exact same' cancer type can help a lot.

The Community is actually divided into dedicated Support Groups (Discussion Rooms) so can I recommend consider joining and posting in our dedicated Womb (uterus) cancer support group. This is a safe place to talk to others with a similar diagnosis, treatment experience, to ask questions and get support.

To join a group click on the “Bold Link” I have created above then once the group page opens click on “Click to Join” when the black banner appears or “Join” under “Group Tools” (this all depends on the device you are using)

You can put up your own post and introduce yourself to the group by clicking “+new” or “+” in the top right next to the group title. You can copy and paste the text from this post into your new post. You can also scroll through other members posts and click “Reply” to get involved.

It’s a challenging time for you so you may want to use the Macmillan Support Line is open 8am-8pm (timings may differ across services) 7 days a week on 0808 808 00 00 or via Webchat and Email too. This service provide cancer information, practical information, emotional support or just a listening ear.

We also have our Ask an Expert section but do allow a few working days for a reply.

Talking to people face to face can be very helpful so do check to see if you have any Local Macmillan Support in your area, do also check for a local Maggie's Centre as these folks are amazing.

Do get back to me if you need further help navigating the community.

  • Hello Dee15

I am sorry to see that you are needing to have further investigations further to your recent scan. It is always a worrying time being referred for testing but we are here to support you while you are waiting.

There are many lovely ladies on our womb cancer forum who will have been through similar testing and will understand what you are currently going through. I found a lot of support on the forum during my womb cancer journey last year. There are ladies on there who have the testing that you are having and go on not to have cancer but they will have experience of the testing.

I will pop a link here in case it is something that you feel would help.

It is good that you have your pre-op on Friday and this will give you a bit of an opportunity to discuss what is happening and ask questions. I had my hysteroscopy/biopsy in March 2022. I didn't have a general though, mine was done in outpatients.

The letter that you have been sent describes the hysteroscopy (camera to look closer), polypectomy (where they remove or take a biopsy from the polyp) I see you have had this before so know what to expect. The endometrial biopsy is being done because your womb lining shows some thickening so they take a few cells for testing. There are different reasons that this can happen, only one is cancer but taking the biopsy is the only way to know for sure. An increase in womb thickness post menopause can be an issue and it was explained to me that when hormone levels drop and periods stop it means womb lining is not shedding so can build up.

I will pop a link here about the hyperplasia which explains a bit more if you want to have a look.

You mention having a few other symptoms that are concerning you. I would mention these to your doctor so they are aware. It may well be due to diet change, stress etc but if it is in anyway related it is best for them to know.

I hope this helps a bit. I hope that your investigations go well and please do let us know if we can be of any further help.
