Hello everyone I’m new on here I was diagnosed with Follicular Lymphoma August 2022 After complaiting six sessions of chemotherapy
which end February this year,My last PET scan showed complete metabolic response and I’m now due to start prophylactic treatment
at the end of this month which will be once every 2 months for the next 2 years. I’m looking to go on a cruise with my husband
In the near future and I’m wondering if anyone could offer any advice on travel insurance for a cancer patient looking to go on a cruise
Hi Suzy59 and a warm welcome to the community.
I am Mike and I help out around our Lymphoma groups. I was diagnosed way back in 1999 at 43 with a rare, incurable but treatable ‘other’ type of Low-grade non-Hodgkin lymphoma eventually reaching Stage 4a in late 2013 so although my Lymphoma ‘type’ may be different I do appreciate the challenges of this journey rather well.
A holiday sounds great….. but as you may find getting affordable Travel Insurance can be a challenge and at times the price could be higher than the cost of the holiday.
Comparison sites tend to use the same algorithms so getting a clear price can be difficult and it’s not that unusual to be turned down or told to call the insurers.
It’s actually more effective to call a few insurers directly as this means that you have answered all the questions correctly and in doing this a suitable policy can be offered and price given.
I had to be 2 years in full remission and on no treatments..... it actually took a year for me to reach remission following my second Stem Cell Transplant so 3 years……. before I could get any price but this is often all down to the risk factors put on you by the insurers risk assessment - I am still very open to infections so this is a high risk factor for insurers…… especially for a cruise…… but you just need to talk with them.
Do have a look through the 'recommended travel insurance' thread and this New Thread in our Travel insurance group as it's where the majority of recommendations from other forum members are. You can also look through all the individual members posts in the group as well.
We also have a dedicated Follicular lymphoma where folks support each other on their journey.
Do get back to me if you need further help.
