Hi everyone. I am on here as I have just been diagnosed with Squamous cell carcinoma of the right lung. I am 69 years old and so far my only option is pneumonectomy. I don't think it has really sunk in yet, or I am still in deniel. I am only Stage T1b, which I suppose is a plus for me. My only concern is that I may die on the operating table. Is this normal for anyone in the same position.
Hi Bubba12 and welcome to the Online Community but I am sorry to hear about your Squamous Cell Carcinoma diagnoses.
Many people on the community will appreciate the fear of having an operation, I have had a few procedures done over the years….. but it’s important to focus on the greater good in what and why it is being done. Do talk this through with your medical professionals as they can help set your mind at rest.
Navigating the cancer journey can be such a stressful and challenging time but getting support from others who are dealing with the ‘exact same' cancer type can help a lot.
As you have noticed the Community is actually divided into dedicated Support Groups (Discussion Rooms) abd I do see that you have already joined our supportive Lung Cancer support group. This is a safe place to talk to others with a similar diagnosis, treatment experience, to ask questions and get support.
To connect in with the group click on the “Bold Link” I have created above then once the group page opens you can put up your own post and introduce yourself to the group by clicking “+new” or “+” in the top right next to the group title. You can copy and paste the text from this post into your new post. You can also scroll through other members posts and click “Reply” to get involved.
Our Support Line teams are available 7 days a week, 8am-8pm on freephone 0808 808 00 00, email or live webchat where you will find one of team there to help you out. We also have our Ask an Expert section but do allow a few working days for a reply.
Talking to people face to face can be very helpful so do check to see if you have any Local Macmillan Support in your area, do also check for a local Maggie's Centre as these folks are amazing.
Do get back to me if you need further help navigating the community.
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
