I feel so alone...

Hi everyone,

I'm 74 YO with prostate cancer. I have absolutely no 'relationship support' and am feeling so alone. I've had 5 x radiation therapy of the prostate and lymph nodes and am now feeling worse than I did a few  weeks ago. My partner of 35 years won't let me touch her - the last time was seven years ago, when she literally snarled at me - 'Don't touch me!". We haven't had sex for nearly 12 years at her insistence.

Where do I go from here?

Andy

  • Hello Andy

    Welcome to the Online community.

I am sorry to hear about your prostate cancer.

Having cancer and going through treatment is tough. I also had pelvic radiation and I also felt worse for a few weeks after it had finished. It was explained to me that once it has finished the treatment carries on working for a while. The cancer cells die off but the normal cells need time to regenerate and this can take some time. Have you mentioned to your doctors that you are feeling this way? Have you got an end of radiotherapy appointment coming up? Mine was about 5 weeks after my last treatment.

I am sorry that you feel you have no relationship support and that you are feeling alone. From my experience having cancer and going through treatment can affect those around us more than we necessarily know and also amplify any existing difficulties within relationships.

May I suggest that you consider joining our Prostate cancer forum so that you are able to connect with gentlemen who are going through a similar experience. I feel this may be of help. I will pop a link here for you.

    I hope this helps.

Please do not feel alone as we are able to give you support. If you ever feel like you need to talk to someone then there is a support line number at the end of this. They are lovely on there and can just listen or if needed direct you to further support.

    Jane
